Chingy

Howard Earl Bailey Jr. (born March 9, 1980), known professionally as Chingy, is an American hip hop recording artist, record producer and actor. Chingy grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and began rapping in his late teens. He toured as an opening act with Nelly in the summer of 2002 and then became a protégé of Ludacris, who signed him to his newly formed Disturbing Tha Peace(DTP) record label. The rapper’s 2003 summer debut single, “Right Thurr”, put him on the musical map as a good-time rapper who specialized in catchy, club-friendly beats and simplistic lyrics delivered in a sing-song, nursery rhyme style.

Ying Yang Twins
Ying Yang Twins

Atlanta’s party rap duo Ying Yang Twins scored a hit with the single “Whistle While You Twurk,” which received nationwide airplay on urban and crossover radio stations. Their full-length debut album, Thug Walkin’, appeared later in 2000. Alley…Return of the Ying Yang Twins from 2002 sold well down South, but it was the duo’s 2003 team-up with Lil Jon — “the King of Crunk” — that brought them nationwide success. The party anthem “Salt Shaker” was a massive club and radio hit and soon had the TVT label chasing the duo to sign. They did, and their first album for the label, Me & My Brother, yielded two more crunk hits, “What’s Happnin!” and “Naggin’.” The same year the duo appeared on Britney Spears’ album In the Zone and her television special of the same name. In 2004, TVT released the remix-filled My Brother & Me with a bonus DVD of the group’s videos. USA (United State of Atlanta) appeared in the summer of 2005 as its single “Wait (The Whisper Song)” was dominating urban radio. Chemically Imbalanced followed in 2006.

The gruff-voiced MC was born and raised in Greenville, NC, and is best known for rap anthems such as “Raise Up,” “Freek-A-Leek” and “Carolina Colors,” have become mainstays on urban radio and as sports stadiums across the country.

In 1997, after appearing on Do or Die’s hit single “Po Pimp”, produced by the Legendary Traxster, Twista signed with Big Beat and Atlantic Records, where he released his third album Adrenaline Rush and formed the group Speedknot Mobstaz, in 1998. His 2004 album Kamikaze topped the U.S. Billboard 200, after the success of the Billboard Hot 100 number-one single “Slow Jamz” (with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx).

Jones initially became recognized for his catchphrase “Mike Jones, who?” (or, “who is Mike Jones?”), which he would usually repeat several times on songs.
